Dear participant,

I am Adrian Avellaneda and as part of my master thesis I welcome you to my study "Eco-tourism and Mental Wellbeing" and thank you for your interest in supporting my research project. Please read this information carefully. It serves to ensure that your participation in the experiment is conscious and voluntary.

The aim of the study is to find out whether and how eco-tourism and participating in ecological monitoring projects influences mental wellbeing.

Procedure of the study

Your task will be to fill in four sets of questionnaires online or in paper-pencil format. It takes 10-15 minutes to complete each of the surveys. The first survey will be completed at home, before starting your trip to one of the three lodges of Rainforest Expeditions (RFE) (T1). The second survey will be administered right upon your arrival at the lodges (T2). The third survey follows three days after your arrival at the lodges (T3), and the last one 6 weeks after your stay in RFE (T4). The last survey will be sent via email.

Voluntariness, anonymization, data protection and remuneration

All personal data is treated as strictly confidential. All data is stored using unidentifiable abbreviations that do not allow any conclusions to be drawn about individuals. Access to personal data is only granted to persons who have been entrusted with the collection / evaluation of the data. In addition, all persons involved in the project are subject to a duty of confidentiality. If the third survey (T3) is not completed for any reasons, the preceding surveys will be deleted automatically. For queries please contact me.

Your participation in this study is voluntary and can be terminated at any time without giving reasons. By giving your written consent, you confirm that you have been satisfactorily informed about the content, procedure and general conditions of the study. There will be no financial remuneration but every participants will automatically take part in a lottery with the chance to win cool prizes as a thank you for their time and effort. In addition, Rainforest Expeditions will grant a 50% discount to visit us in 2025 and 2026 for friends and/or family referred by you.

Risks

Participation in this experiment does not involve any physical or psychological risks. The personal risk during participation in this experiment corresponds to the risk in everyday situations.

This serves to make the research process, including data collection and analysis, transparent and to ensure that any scientist could achieve the same result using the data and the specified analysis methods.
