Info Hour on NRR & CAP
Date: 21st May, 2025
Time: 15.00-16.30
The Nature Restoration Regulation (NRR) has recently been adopted by the EU. What are the implications for farmland areas and the research we do on them? And what are the implications for the EU’s Common Agricultural Policy (CAP)?
Following a workshop which took place in iDiv (Leipzig) on NRR-CAP relations, scientists expressed the wish to know more about the two policy instruments and the (potential) interactions among them.
To address this wish, we will hold an introductory Info Hour explaining each of the two policies, and then jointly discuss the interactions among them, and what they mean for scientists and for future science-policy interfaces.
Both policies represent key pillars within the EU policy landscape, forming the basis of some of the most important legislation for biodiversity conservation and research at the European level. Looking ahead, these policies will continue to evolve, with transformation and implementation taking place at both EU and member state levels and the scientific community still has a vital opportunity to contribute to shaping their future impact.
The Info hour will be based on two introductory talks, one about the CAP and one about the NRR, by two experts on these policies. We will then open the floor for questions and answers, and an open discussion, with a broader panel of members in an evolving NRR-CAP expert group.
Organised by Guy Pe'er (iDiv, UFZ), Marie Vandewalle (UFZ), Néstor Fernandez (iDiv, MLU), Sebastian Lakner (University Rostock), Evelyn Underwood (IEEP), Leonie Friedrich (iDiv, FSU)
